Three papers by PhD students at UIC were presented at IEEE VIS 2025, held November 2 to 7 in Vienna, Austria, and published in IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics.
StreetWeave, led by Sanjana Srabanti with G. Elisabeta Marai and Fabio Miranda, proposes a design space for street-overlaid visualizations and a declarative grammar for creating custom visualizations of multivariate spatial network data, so that domain experts can explore thematic and physical data at multiple scales without programming. More at urbantk.org/streetweave.
VA-Blueprint, led by Leonardo Ferreira with Gustavo Moreira and Fabio Miranda, presents a methodology and knowledge base that use LLMs to capture the building blocks of visual analytics systems, revealing design patterns through a hierarchical blueprint. The data and interface are at urbantk.org/va-blueprint.
Urbanite, led by Gustavo Moreira with Leonardo Ferreira, Carolina Veiga, Maryam Hosseini and Fabio Miranda, introduces a framework for human-AI collaboration in urban visual analytics: a dataflow-based model that lets users specify intent at multiple levels, aligning specification, process and evaluation while supporting explainability and interaction provenance. Code and tutorials are at urbantk.org/urbanite.
All three are on the Software and Publications pages.
