OSCUR PIs Juliana Freire (July 2 to 15) and Claudio Silva (July 15 to 31) spent back-to-back two-week residencies at the University of California, Berkeley, in July 2026, working with Marta Gonzalez and Maryam Hosseini.

The month started three directions:

• a joint project with Marta Gonzalez on housing affordability;
• work with Maryam Hosseini on extending Tile2Net, which extracts sidewalk networks from aerial imagery, to imagery from the Global South, where images and built environments differ from its training data;
• a collaboration on the open-source JupyterGIS project, to bring OSCUR’s capabilities to an environment the geospatial community already uses.
