On September 29, 2026, the full-day tutorial “Autark in Action: Building Serverless Prototypes of Urban Visual Analytics Systems” took place at SIBGRAPI 2026, the 39th Conference on Graphics, Patterns and Images, in Goiânia, Brazil.
The tutorial, by João Rulff (FGV), Lucas Alexandre, Talisson Souza, Daniel de Oliveira and Marcos Lage (UFF), Gustavo Moreira and Fabio Miranda (UIC), Harish Doraiswamy (Microsoft Research) and Claudio Silva (NYU), teaches how to build urban visual analytics systems that run entirely in the browser with Autark, through hands-on exercises of increasing complexity that end with a case study on urban heat. Because Autark applications need no server or installation, the exercises can be assigned in any classroom and shared as links.
It is OSCUR’s first peer-reviewed training material. The image shows Urbane, a multi-resolution urban visual analytics system, rebuilt with Autark.
